Disaster
Services: As an integral part of the human service system in southwestern
Pennsylvania and northcentral West Virginia, AGHC is committed to serving
our community in times of natural disaster or emergency need.
In order to facilitate optimum use of our organization's resources
at these critical times, AGHC participates in active preparedness to
ensure the availability of our resources to those in need.
In the event of a natural disaster or emergency need such as;
floods, fires, destructive storms, etc., services that may be made
available include registered professional nurses, licensed practical
nurses, social workers, clerical counseling, home health aides, and
trained volunteers. Albert
Gallatin Home Care, Inc. has designated two administrative positions for
coordination of liaison activity between our organization and community
emergency services. The
Director of Operations, Bonita Campbell, holds primary responsibility for
this coordination of services. In
her absence, the Assistant Director of Operations, Judy Brestensky, will
serve this capacity.

The
Fayette County Chapter serves the entire county with the exception of some
areas located in the vicinity of Belle Vernon and Fayette City.
The Fayette County Chapter also refers to other county agencies for
food and shelter, and with the client's permission, sends an appeal to all
county newspapers and radio stations, listing the victims needs and
contact phone number. The
Fayette County Chapter also provides, when available, comfort kits
containing personal items, such as combs, brushes, toothpaste,
toothbrushes, etc. The
American Red Cross works closely with the Emergency Management Agency and
is responsible for setting up shelters and providing volunteers to staff
the shelters. If the disaster
is large scale and declared a National disaster, the National organization
will assist the local chapter in setting up service centers to assist in
providing additional assistance to replace furniture, appliances, home
repairs, bed linens, cooking and eating utensils, emergency health
services, etc. The Fayette
County Chapter-American Red Cross is funded by the United Way of Greater
Connellsville and the United Way of South Fayette, Inc., and receives
contributions. They receive no government funding.

ARC enlists
several programs including:
Adult
Development Center (ADC) providing services to adult mentally and/or
physically handicapped from the age of 21.
Services include activities of daily living, functional academics,
leisure skills, etc. All
clients must be referred through Fayette County MH/MR.
Child
Development Center (CDC) providing services to handicapped and at-risk
infants and toddlers from birth through the age of 3.
Services include growth motor, fine motor, and communication and
cognitive skills. Instruction
is homebased and can be provided in a daycare setting.
Medical
case management coordinates services for medically fragile infants and
other families, includes referral-respite care and transportation in
concert with local and Pittsburgh hospitals.
Supportive
Employment provides employment training given to Mental Health/Mental
Retardation adults from the age of 18.
Training is either in agency cafeteria, health occupation or child
care worker, or job placement throughout the Uniontown area.
One on one job training is provided for all participants in the
program. Actual on-the-job
training is also provided.
Pre-school
and Latchkey programs provide day programming for children 13 months
through 5 years, and after school and all day summer programming for
children age 5 through 12. This service is for working parents and those parents in a
training program. Subsidized
rates for those who qualify.
Social
Services are provided to all clients and families associated with the
Association for Retarded Citizens in Fayette County.
Transportation
services are provided to all clients of ADC and CDC.
Transportation is also provided for some students of the Latchkey
program during the school year but not during the summer months, Goodwill
Industries, and Personal Dynamics Center.
Family
connections provides services to at-risk families.
Refferal is through Fayette County Children and Youth.
Welfare-to-Work
experience / training is provided through referral.
Behaviorial
Health services are provided to individuals under the age of 21.
Refferal is through Fayette County MH/MR.
