Prevention/Mitigation: To work with the planning and zoning offices to assure the proper use of hazardous lands, such as floodplain areas and the location of SARA facilities. Preparedness: Planning how and when to respond in case an emergency or disaster occurs and working to increase resources available to respond in case an emergency or disaster occurs and working to increase resources available to respond effectively. TO SAVE LIVES AND MINIMIZE DAMAGE PLANS: SARA,DAM, EBS, MASS, CARE, EOP, etc. Equipment: The County Emergency Management maintains a very detailed resource book of available equipment it can utilize in the time of an emergency. This includes that owned by the county as well as private and public. It is to provide emergency assistance to victims and reduce the likelihood of a secondary damage: fire, police. EMS. Emergency Management, etc. Recovery: Continues until all systems return to normal or near normal. Can be short-term or long-term. The County Emergency Management Agency is the link between the local governments and the State and Federal government. On the county level, the Agency coordinates with the State and Federal Officials for a declaration after a disaster has occurred for aid whether from the President, Governor, or both. During a disaster, if funds are needed for supplies, food, etc., funds may be approved by the Commissioners to cover such expenses. The Fayette County Emergency Managaement has an Emergency Operation Staff (EOC) which is comprised of 22 people which are trained in various areas to work in disasters. They operate the county 911 center and handle all hazardous materials responses.
