February Souper" Bowl Sunday will be held on Sunday, February 7th. Any Churches, businesses and individuals wishing to participate please contact Jamie at the foodbank 724-430-6444. You could consider asking each person who attends your Super Bowl Party to contribute to "Souper" Bowl Sunday and send your donations into the foood bank. Come up with fun ideas and share them with us.
BAE SYSTEMS is conducting a food drive February 1 - 18. They have donation boxes located in teh front office, back office and lunch rooms. Monetary donations are also being accepted. Items most needed are cereal, canned beans, sauces, canned pastas, canned meat/fish, canned vegetalbes, jello and pudding, canned juice, canned fruits and soups.
March Saturday March 13 was our Upper Room Senior Stride with Pride and Paul Sprowls Diaper Derby. The Stride began at 8:00 AM, it is a walk around the inside of the mall, each lap you recieve 5 tickets for the Chinese Auction so the more laps you complete, the more tickets you recieve. Some of the participants finished 6,8, and 10 laps. There was 84 people in attendance. We had 61 donated prizes for the auction (thanks to our dynamic duo Marge Gregg and Louise Franks)and every one had a good time. Money raised benefits the Meals on Wheels program.
The Diaper Derby began at 11AM with 23 pre registered. It was a fun filled competition for crawling babies and toddlers up to 36 months old. Crawlers participating in the derby will crawl and walkers will toddle on padded gym mats from one cheering "coach" to another competing for ribbons. There was also prize drawings and our volunteers did a wonderful job of organzing and running both events.
Sunday March 14 was our annual Boston Beanery St. Patrick’s 5K Run/Walk. FCCAA volunteers did a great job of setting up and keeping things running smoothly. Uniontown's Dexter Smart held off the charge of fellow Uniontown resident Ben Shinskky to win the 18th annual Boston Beanery St. Patrick's Day 5K Run/Walk. Smart crossed the finish line in 17:56.98, just ahead of Shinsky's finish in 17:59.42. Perryopolis' Sawyer Palonder was third in 18:16.46.
Monroeville's Tammy Slusser was the first female to cross the finish line with her winning time of 19:59.82. Jennifer Sober, of McHenry, Md., finished close behind in 20:04.18, and Greensburg's Morgan Ansell was third in 20:14.31. Monroeville's Don Slusser won the men's 5K walk in 29:12.18. Fort Hill's Craig Baer was second in 31:45.56, and Lawrence's Stush Sadowski place third in 33:15.80. Dunbar's Debbie McGee won the women's 5K walk in 34:51.64. Uniontown's Jessica Scott cruised to second place in 35:35.23, and Connellsville's Leanne Kurpiel was third in 36:16.57. Monogahela's Mike Melvin won the cruiser division run in 23:29.17, and Suterville's Dan Geruschat was the Clydesdale division champ in 21:49.08.
April Scouting for Food.. 100th Anniversay will take place on Saturday, April 24th. Scouts will be distributing door knockers on Saturday, April 17...please leave your items on your porch by 8:30 a.m. on Saturday the 24th.
