Just as a seedling grows to become a strong tree, families need to be nourished and provided the opportunity to grow. Crisis situations and poverty often destroy many families and robs them of the joy of growing together. Fayette County Community Action is dedicated to strengthening families. Your generosity will benefit thousands of families in need in Fayette County. To join our family, please click on the support us tab to learn more about the different support levels.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Friday May 11, 2007 to open our "green" office building that was designed to be energy-efficient, friendly to the environment and healthy for workers.
Since the building was completed in December, it has cost 30 percent less to operate than the Family Service Center, which opened in 1998, and 50 percent less than the Community Service Center building, which opened in 1989, said Stark.
Construction methods, materials and design make the building less expensive to operate and healthier for employees and the environment, said Mark Altman of Altman and Altman Architects of Uniontown, which designed the building. Another major component is the energy-recovery unit, which, on a warm day like Friday, would pull in hot air from outside and cool it by mixing it with inside air that was cooled using a heat pump. The air is then circulated throughout the building. Occupancy sensors turn off room lights after everyone leaves. Insulation used in the building is made from recycled newspaper, he said, adding that most of the building materials are recycled materials. There are water-free urinals that use chemical cartridges to prevent odors from escaping and water-thrifty toilets.
A special thank you to: The Fayette County Vocational Technical School who made the strawberries/dip trays, cookies, and muffins, our Aging staff who made the vegetable trays, Rose Wise who made the ribbon and Rolaf Landscaping who donated the plants. And of course, “The Dave’s”: Dave Henckel, and Dave Grassel who without all of their help, none of it would have been possible. Thank you to everyone who helped in any way.
