Food Bank & Nutrition Education

The Food Bank, located at 119 North Beeson Ave., is a program in which products are distributed through local volunteer food pantries where residents can receive a 3-5 day emergency supply of food for a family.  Residents of Fayette County who meet 125% of federal poverty guidelines can receive a package of commodities through USDA and the Slate Food Purchase Program.

The Food Bank is Fayette County’s designated warehouse for collection and storage of food for the needy. More than 1.8 million pounds of food are collected and distributed to approximately 10,000 individuals and families annually. Distribution takes place through a network of volunteer food pantries, congregate feeding sites, soup kitchens and day care centers.

Through the Emergency Feeding Program, food packages are distributed through a network of 37 pantires.

In addition, Community Action sponsors the Brownsville Soup Kitchen, which feeds approximately 75 people daily. In support of all these programs, the Food Bank maintains 18,289 square feet of dry storage; 400 square feet of coolers; 600 square feet of freezer space; and 2,630 feet of office space.

Your donations are always needed and welcomed.  Click here to print a shopping list.

Food pantries have a positive impact on the empowerment of resident councils and community self-sufficiency.

The Food Bank is a popular community service recipient. The Boy Scouts, news organizations, mail carriers, churches and other organizations work with the Food Bank each year to generate donations.

The Food Bank is fortunate in benefitting from numerous food drives and fundraising events throughout the year which help meet the needs of hungry families throughout the County.

In addition, the Food Bank is a subsidiary distrubution organization with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and the America's Second Harvest National Food Bank Network which receives donated food products from national food companies for distribution to needy families

The CSFP program offers an additonal box of food to Fayette County residents age 60+ with 130% of the poverty guideline income.

Tuesday August 3rd is Fayette County Food Bank Day.  From 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM, you will receive FREE admission for each person donating at least 3 non perishable items.

The cookbook contains 450 recipes from staff, friends, and family of the FCCAA Food Bank.  Approximately 80 of the recipes in the cookbook are recipes used by the FCCAA nutritionists and dieticians through the Nutrition Education and WIC Programs.  The recipes are perfect if you are trying to lower your cholesterol, have diabetes, or are watching what you eat.  These recipes are included in the "This & That" section of Treats & Eats from A to Z.
We are asking you to make a $5 tax deductible donation for the cookbook.  Each donation will provide $200 worth of food to 200 residents in Fayette County.  We believe this is an excellent return on your investment.
